    The last twelve months have brought us a number of new statutes, important court cases, and pertinent agency regulations that warrant attention as we provide up-to-date guidance to our health care credentialing, peer review and quality improvement clients.

    This presentation will address how to process the medical staff applications of “on-the-bubble applicants” – those who present difficult decisions for credentials and executive committees – and any pitfalls to be aware of.

    11:30 am – 12:15 am       MEDICAL STAFF PEER REVIEW CONFIDENTIALITY: WHITHER EVIDENCE CODE SECTION 1157? THE “RIGHT TO PRIVACY” TO THE RESCUE!
    Speaker: Steve Schnier
    Medical staff peer review has long enjoyed the confidentiality protections provided by Evidence Code Section 1157. While that statute is not the almost impenetrable barrier it once was, the California Constitution’s “Right to Privacy” may help to fill the gaps.

    The medical staff bylaws are very important and if used correctly can be tremendously helpful to peer reviewers. This presentation will address which provisions work very well in that regard and which provisions mainly create headaches.
